Ask Your Doctor About Focalin And Excessive Sweating

Focalin is a modified form of the drug Ritalin and is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. It is a mild stimulant and can cause excessive sweating, as it has listed as one of its potential side effects. If your child suffers from ADHD, know that Focalin and excessive sweating may go hand and hand. Discuss this with your doctor if the sweating becomes too much or if it begins to bother you or your child. After all, you're trying to treat your child's ADHD, you're not trying to contribute to their troubles by having them stress out about sweating so much. You should also talk to your child about Focalin and excessive sweating to determine if this drug is truly a wonderful one to take.

    Fitting In

Many children who suffer from ADHD are suffering at a time when they are desperately trying to fit in. If they commence taking Focalin and experience excessive sweating, this can cause them many of undue stress. They may fear being around people for fear that they'll notice the sweating or they may fear they're emitting a certain odor, which can cause them to become withdrawn or anti-social. That's why, if your child takes Focalin and experiences excessive sweating, you should discuss the problem with your doctor and with your child to determine if maybe the dosage can be decreased or if you could switch to another prescription altogether.

    Talk To Your Doctor

The moment your child begins taking Focalin and experiences excessive sweating, you should contact your doctor. Your doctor will examine the severity of the sweating to determine if maybe it will diminish over time. It may be that your child has too much anxiety and that is what is causing the excessive sweating. If the Focalin and excessive sweating prove to be too much, then your doctor will have to determine if maybe the dosage can be decreased to combat the sweating. If there is another prescription that will aid with your child's ADHD, then ask your doctor if you could switch. Just know that your child may experience other side effects with another drug, and they may be worse than the Focalin and excessive sweating. This is something you should also discuss with your doctor.

ADHD affects a lot children and there are a number of prescription drugs that can help. Focalin is one of them, but excessive sweating is a side effect that can occur, due mainly to its stimulant properties. Before your child takes Focalin, discuss excessive sweating with your doctor and with your child before he or she begins to take it. That technique your child can be ready if, in fact, Focalin and excessive sweating are experienced.
